It searches Google Maps for your keyword from nine points on a 3×3 grid around your business and shows where you rank at each one. Customers in different streets see different results, so one number never tells the whole story.
Yes. You get a few free scans a day with no account. For the full report by email we ask for your email address, and you can sign up for a free plan to run bigger scans.
The nine points are about 2 km (1.2 miles) apart, so the grid covers a neighbourhood of roughly 4 km across. A full scan in the app can check up to 21 × 21 points, and as far out as you choose.
ATRP is your average rank across the points, counting a point where you are not in the top 20 as 21: lower is better. Local Visibility is the share of points where you are in the top 3, the "map pack" that most customers click.
Google shows results for where the searcher is, and changes them by device, history and time. The grid searches from fixed spots, so results are repeatable and comparable week to week.
