01

Click "Add custom connector".
Name it CitedNearby and paste the server address. Leave the advanced OAuth fields empty.
Click Add, then click Connect next to it.

04
Add the server in Cursor, or in its settings file.
Open Cursor Settings > MCP (Tools & MCP in newer versions) and add a new MCP server. Or edit ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (one project) and add this:
Cursor shows that the server needs a login. Click it, sign in to your CitedNearby account and click Allow.
Use it in Agent mode.
05
Add the server from the Command Palette, or in a settings file.
Open the Command Palette, run "MCP: Add Server", choose HTTP, paste the server address, name it citednearby and choose Global.
Or create .vscode/mcp.json in your project with this. Note that VS Code uses "servers", not "mcpServers".
VS Code asks to let the server sign in. Allow it, sign in to your CitedNearby account and click Allow.
Use it from Copilot Chat in Agent mode.
06
Windsurf uses an API key instead of signing in.
Create an API key in Settings > API Keys. Tick "Can start scans" if you want Windsurf to be able to start scans.
Open API Keys →Edit ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json and add this, with your key:
Refresh the MCP servers in Windsurf, or restart it.
07
Add the server to the Gemini CLI settings file.
Add this to ~/.gemini/settings.json:
Start gemini and run this command:
Sign in to your CitedNearby account and click Allow.
08
Any tool that supports MCP over the web can connect.
Use the server address, with the transport "Streamable HTTP".
Sign in with OAuth. The client finds the sign-in details on its own. Or send the header Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY, with a key from Settings > API Keys.
Open API Keys →If your client reads a JSON file with "mcpServers", this is the usual shape:
And with an API key:
A choice
Signing in (OAuth) is simplest. It is the only option in claude.ai and ChatGPT.
API keys suit tools you set up with a file. You make one in Settings > API Keys. The "Can start scans" switch decides whether a key may start scans. Keys can expire, and you can revoke any of them at any time.

Connecting is included in every plan, the free plan too. Reading your data costs nothing. Scans your assistant starts use credits, exactly as they do in the dashboard.
Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and Gemini CLI are covered above. Any other tool that supports MCP can connect too, with the same server address.
The assistant reads only your own account, and only through the tools we give it. You can disconnect it at any time in Settings > AI Assistants. We do not see your chats. We only see the requests your assistant sends to CitedNearby.
Only if you allowed it when you connected. Even then, every scan it starts shows in your credits history, so you can see what was spent.
MCP is short for Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets AI assistants use tools and read data from other services.
Try it with your own business.
